Kids Planning Their Own Parties

Making pinatas is so much fun, but most kids would never know this because they aren’t planning their ow birthday parties.  Imagine how much fun a party with friends would be if the chidren had planned the party on their own.  My artsy fartsy kids always plan their own parties, sometimes because I am busy with other things, but mostly because they love party planning.

Having Homeschool birthday parties is a different story, life is learning.  They’ve hosted Crazy Hat Parties, Princess Birthday Parties and an Elmo Party.

According to the artsy fartsy kids, the birthday party elements that every party planner should consider are:

Birthday Party Themes for Kids:

You can’t even go one step further without choosing a theme.  According to my kids this is the number one most vital aspect of any successful party plan.

Birthday Party Invitations Kids can Make

The invitations need to reflect the theme.  Think outside the envelope, the postal service can deliver a message in a (plastic water) bottle for your shipwrecked party or a handmade scroll for a royal party.  Flat paper invitations work, they get the job done.  To spice those up, consider using different language, fun papers or other elements.

Birthday Party Games Kids can Make

Plan games that go along with your theme.  A standard 2 hour birthday party calls for 2-3 party games.  You’ll also need prizes for the winners.  Some games that allow themselves to be easily made-over for your theme are ___ eating contests, a cake walk, throwing a beanbag into a hole, pin the __ on the ____ and garden games.

Birthday Party Food Kids can Make

Always try to work the food into your theme.  You can serve whatever you want but you have to give it a name that goes with your theme.  Tropical foods for a luau or pirate party, frozen foods for a penguin party and dainty little foods for a princess party.

Birthday Party Food Games for Kids to Make

One popular game that adolescents and teens can spend a surprising amount of time on is cake decorating.  making cakes from scratch is inexpensive, so you might just want to bake a few 9×9 one-layer cakes and give each kid their own whole cake to decorate.  Make a seperate cake to enjoy at the party, or give each child their own cupcake to decorate and then eat.

Visit the cake decorating section of your craft store or, if your town has one, a cake decorating store.  They have some amazing cake-decorating items that you can purchase.  You might even be able to invite a guest speaker to come visit and show the kids some tricks.  It’s probably cheaper to hire a cake decorator for party entertainment than it is to hire Superman.

One fun item we found was spray-on cake coloring.  it was like spray-paint, but for cakes.  The look was amazing, you can make a whole tie-dyed cake, or a graffiti-art cake.  The possibilities are endless.  You can even print pictures on rice paper and lay them into your design.  There’s also stencils, fondant and so many more fun, cool cake decorating products available.

Making Birthday Party Decorations

Hands-down, paper-chain streamers are the number one most popular party decorations in the house. Birthday kids always want to go to bed early around here because they know that when they wake up the house will be decorated just for them. We tend to leave the decorations up for like a week or so.
